Rutherford County Sheriff Office (Tennessee) to erect 9/11 steel monument

An artifact from the World Trade Center will be erected in a monument at the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office beginning Monday.

The 1.5-ton piece of steel from the New York City skyscraper destroyed by terrorists on 9/11 will be delivered about 10:45 a.m. to the sheriff's office at 940 New Salem Highway, said Deputy Jimmy Cassidy who helped coordinate the donation with Deputy Greg Dotson of the Community Services Unit. Citizens are welcome to be present when the artifact is delivered.

Dotson said the artifact will be displayed in a permanent monument as a visual reminder of 9/11.

"The memorial will be a constant reminder of the horrific incident of 9/11 and a constant reminder the law enforcement officers and firefighters in New York City endured to help the innocent," he said
