'Ground Zero' steel comes to Enfield to join fire department's 9/11 memorial

Enfield is receiving a piece of the towers as part of a Port Authority program to distribute artifacts from Ground Zero to any fire department, police department or municipal agency wishing to incorporate it into a permanent and public Sept. 11 display.

The steel beams, each 18 feet long and weighing about 1,400 pounds each, were part of the World Trade Towers that came crashing to earth when the towers collapsed following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Specifically, they were part of the building frame on the north face of the north tower.
