First Responders Not Invited To 9/11 Anniversary Ground Zero Ceremony

First responders who were called to the World Trade Center site in the days and weeks following 9/11 will reportedly be on the outside looking in at next month's anniversary ceremony.

According to the Daily News, police officers, firefighters and rescue workers will not be invited to take part in the primary 10th anniversary ceremony activities.

Instead, they will be asked back at the site another day for a separate ceremony.

The News cites security and a lack of room as the reason of the decision.

The presence of President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush will create mounting security concerns.

Thousands of family members will also be on hand.

It's estimated as many as 91,000 people took part in the initial search and rescue at the World Trader Center site.

not only has a travesty of justice been done by not inviting the first responders, it's just not right not to have them there !

I would think that those that WERE invited would be supportive of all the first responders and NOT SHOW UP! This is the time to stick up for each other and show our UNITED States frame of mind!..... Those invited ones that DO show up....shame on you!

I don't live in New York City but I am an American who is DISGUSTED by Mayor Bloomberg. I don't even have words I am so gobsmacked...How can this be possible???
I wonder if the mayor was in one of those towers and was rescued by one of New York's bravest if he would feel different?
I am part of a grateful nation who thanks you for your bravery. I cried with you on 9/11 and marveled at what you did on that day. You didn't run away from the towers ran toward them. I will never forget you and will be thinking of you on 9/11.

Sgt. Swannick...My kids go a small private school here in Lynchburg, VA. We are planning to have a 10 year anniversary ceremony at school. You or any other responders who would like to attend would be more than welcome! We would be humbled and honored at your presence...for the ceremony or any other day. We know and understand who the real heroes are in this world. I am embarrassed to be a part of a human race that would treat you all this way. Yes, thank God you all showed up that day and so many made the ultimate sacrifice that day and those who continue to sacrifice. Anytime you are in the Lynchburg, VA area you have a special place at our school! Thank you for your service!!

The brave men and women who responded to the terrorist attacks on 09/11/01 should be at the center of any and all tributes to that fateful day.
Their bravery, and acts of self sacrifice rallied the rest of the country.
Any politician who dares consider giving a speach at ANY memorial where the first responders are not front and center, should be deeply ashamed.

I agree, this is not a real ceremony without those who risked their lives that day and then lived on that pile of debris and death for all of those months that followed, and now are shrugged off. They are victims too, losing family, friends, comrades, their own personal health, and they are heroes.

This event should be held in Central Park, with only a smaller gathering at Ground Zero giving a few speeches and prayers, which will be broadcast on huge screens to the Park location, where the larger ceremony will be held. We have the technology to work this out together! Snubbing First Responders is nothing less than cruel, heartless ignorance! But not unusual for politicians, who think with their asses.

When the unveiling ceremony for the Statue of Liberty took place in 1886, the people who actually paid for the erection and raised the million dollars for the base construction of the statue here in the USA were not allowed near the ceremony either! President Grant and Congress would not allocate funds to put the statue up. Finally, a mere $50K was given by our govt.(France had paid to build and ship the statue) and Joseph Pulitzer began a campaign: on the front page of his newspaper, every day, anyone who sent money, any amount at all, even a nickel or 3 cents, got their name on the front page! In this way, he raised the money to get that statue up, not the government, congress, Senators. Not the many millionaires in and around New York and Rhode Island in those days. Not Rockefeller, the Vanderbilts, etc. Poor people, children, housewives.

In other words, Americans.

And on the Grand Day of the unveiling on the Island? Who had front row seating with satin bunting and champagne? Only the rich society types, who didnt do squat to erect the Statue of Liberty! And the yachts and boats of wealthy and influencial persons crowded the bay, popping bubbly and fine dining.

This exclusion of the First Respondents is reminiscent of that event 125 years ago. But far worse. Far more dispicable.

I hope some good protests and gorilla parades pop up all through the city!
