New Orleans to commemorate anniversary of 9/11

NEW ORLEANS -- With the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks coming up, New Orleans plans to commemorate the anniversary by asking citizens to pay tribute to the city's firefighters, police officers and emergency medical services workers.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu is asking people to show their appreciation for the city's emergency workers by refurbishing buildings, doing landscaping work, making meals or baking cookies for first responders. The mayor is asking children to write thank you notes or create banners for first responders.

The city's "9/11 Tribute Through Service" initiative is meant to commemorate the men and women who died in New York City, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania 10 years ago on Sept. 11.
